My Quiet Place
Wise Word Wednesday
"Anxiety weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad"
•Proverbs 12:25•
This week's Wise Word comes from the book of the Bible itself! Proverbs is, well, a reading of proverbs or pieces of advice. I stumbled upon this verse in chapter 12 that offers some very applicable advice in our lives....especially mine. I am a worrier. It is one of my spiritual weaknesses that God constantly convicts me of. He also reminds me that His grace covers my fear and that He is always by my side, working when I am stressing.
Over my years with overwhelmingly scary situations, constant anticipation of future events, and a never-ceasing worrisome mind, I have realized how much energy I waste on dwelling on uncountable circumstances. I plan, I worry, I attempt to control. I am not happy until all "my ducks are in a row". What an exhausting way to live! Anxiety weighs a man down. But, according to God's word, a good word makes him glad. I applied this in more than way.
1. A good word can come from the Bible. They are the BEST words we will ever read. His Word will always have the power to lift us above our problems so He can live through us. Cast all your anxieties upon the Lord because He cares for us.
2. A good word can come from the mouth of another. A simple compliment or voice of confidence from a friend or stranger can do a lot to brighten our outlook on life. Even nonverbal communication such as a smile or a nod can make all the difference. Thank God when the little things people say or do cheer you up. God speaks through those people.
3. A good word can come from our own mouths. Worrying is selfish. It focuses on my wants, my issues, my life when God calls us to view others as more important than ourselves. Humble yourselves under His might hand and He will lift you up when the time is right. Looking around us, praying for others, and cheering up someone else's day can diminish the size of our own problems.
{ Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
1 Peter 5:5-7 }

How has God used His word or other's words to bring you joy in the midst of your anxiety?
