5 Ways to Kick Start a Christ-Centered Day!
1. Wake up and....Grab Your Phone?!
What is the first thing you do when you wake up? Most of you probably pick up your smartphone and begin scrolling through notifications and feed. In fact, research says that 4 out of 5 smartphone owners look at their phone within the first 15 minutes of waking up.....guilty! But what if we use this statistic for God's glory? What if the first word we take in isn't what the world has to say, but what God has to say? I am currently trying to develop the habit of opening my Bible app and reading a verse instead opening Social Media and reading a post. This habit will fix our thoughts on what is important right at the start of our day!
2. Pray While Getting Ready
Even by the time we start to get ready for the day, our minds are typically not awake. Even still, as I brush my teeth, wash my face, and put on my makeup, my thoughts tend to revolve around the events of my day, what I am dreading the most, and which outfit I will feel prettier in. Focusing on ourselves or what lies ahead increases stress and insecurity. Talking to God throughout our morning routine kills negative thinking patterns that will most likely continue throughout the day, hindering our communication with God.
3. Listen to Worship Music
I am tempted every morning to turn on some catchy secular songs that will wake me up and lift my spirits! I have to be reminded that just because a song is labeled "Christian music" does not mean it is slow and boring. There are plenty of godly artists out there that produce upbeat music such as Hillsong: Young and Free and Lecrae. Not only can worship music brighten your morning, but it encourages you to praise our Father for who He is and the day He has made!
4. Spend time with the Lord
This may seem like a given, but giving up a time slot in your morning dedicated to talking with and hearing from God prepares you for the day ahead. The Lord will use this time to equip you with what you will need to face the upcoming challenges each day holds. Like steps 1-3, a morning quiet time fixes our thoughts on the things above and not on earthly things.
5. Remind Yourself of God's Love
I enjoy reading a few "Morning Verses" at the beginning of each day to refresh my mind and renew my perspective. Write them on your mirror, keep them by your nightstand, meditate on the merciful and steadfast love of God throughout your morning.
{ Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14 }
that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14 }
{ The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23 }
{ Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8 }
