When You Do Not Feel Blessed

Sometimes it's hard to "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-19). We go through tough situations where even the "bright side" seems dim. We have off days when "looking at the glass have full" seems like an impossible task. Yet even in joyful times, we can often forget to thank God. But when we take our eyes off the tangible and the circumstantial, God is still good and worthy of our praise. For in every situation, our spiritual blessings are always greater than our physical.

When it is difficult to find things to be thankful for, remember who God is, what He has done, and who you are in Him:

1. You have a personal relationship with The One True God...the omniscient and omnipresent Lord!

I am God, and there is none like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done.  Isaiah 46:9

 2. Your creator loves you with an everlasting and unconditional love.
I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Jeremiah 31:3
3. Your Father sent His Son to die as payment for your sin debt so that you can spend eternity with Him

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2:4-7

4. Your God promises to meet every need according to His limitless resources.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

5. Your Savior provides His Word and His Spirit to guide you.

But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. John 16:13

6. You are holy and blameless before God, chosen by Him.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9

7. You are God's adopted daughter.

In love he predestined us for adoption as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will. Ephesians 1:5

8. You are an inheritor of God's Kingdom as promised by the Holy Spirit.

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will. Ephesians 1:11

When you do not feel blessed, you are still blessed. No matter the circumstance, we can always praise God for who He is, what He has done, and who we are in Him. Praise God for His physical blessings but, especially, praise God for His spiritual blessings.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places. Ephesians 1:3
