6 Ways & 6 Reasons To Share the Gospel Using the Legend of the Candy Cane

Haven't heard of the Legend of the Candy Cane? Read a detailed version of the impactful story along with applicable Scripture verses on the latest blogpost

Join in on the candy cane fun by making these festive snacks, crafts, and actives. By giving away these goodies, you may even open one's eyes to the best gift of all.

How?

1. Make these yummy candy cane treats and deliver them to your friends, family, and neighbors! Explain the Gospel by referring to the candy cane parts.

Candy Cane Marshmallow Pops

Ingredients:

❄︎ 1 child to crush candy canes (optional, but fun)
❄︎ large marshmallows
❄︎ mini candy canes
❄︎ melted chocolate (we use Trader Joe's Dark Chocolate block)
❄︎ crushed candy canes

Procedure:

❄︎ Stick a mini candy cane into the large marshmallow.
❄︎ Dip the marshmallow into the melted chocolate, allow excess chocolate to drip off.
❄︎ Roll into the crushed candy cane.
❄︎ Place on a waxed paper lined baking sheet and allow to set.

Candy Cane Cookies

Ingredients:

❄︎ 1 cup butter
❄︎ 1 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
❄︎ 1 egg
❄︎ 1 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
❄︎ 1 teaspoon vanilla
❄︎ 2 1/2 cups flour
❄︎ 1 teaspoon salt
❄︎ red food coloring

Procedure:

❄︎ Heat oven to 375 F.
❄︎ Mix butter, sugar, egg, and flavorings thoroughly.
❄︎  Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting; mix flour and salt; stir into the wet mixture.
❄︎ Divide dough in half; blend red food coloring into one half.
❄︎ Roll a 4-inch strip from each color. For smooth, even strips, roll them back and forth on a lightly floured board.
❄︎ Place strips side by side, press lightly together and twist like rope. For best results, complete cookies one at a time--if all the dough of one color is shaped first, strips become too dry to twist.
❄︎ Place on ungreased baking sheet. Curve top down to form the handle of the candy cane. Note: If you want a variation, you can also place strips side by side and roll them into a spiral and affix small triangles of white dough on either end, to have the look of starlight mints like in the picture on the top of this post!
❄︎ Bake about 9 minutes, until lightly browned. While still warm, remove from baking sheet with spatula; if desired, sprinkle with a mixture of sugar and/or crushed candy canes.

2. Attach the Legend of the Candy Cane Poem to your baked goods or even to individual candy canes to pass out!

3. Make adorable Bookmarks and add it to one of your Christmas gifts!

4. Print out Coloring Pages for the children to read and color at Christmas, a party, or Sunday School.

5. Print and fold a Mini Devotional and let it be apart of Family Devos, Christmas dinner, or a Sunday School Lesson.

6. Purchase the Book and/or Movie for Family Night, Class Party, or Story Time.

The gift of salvation is the best present anyone can receive.

Why?

1. God wrapped it with care: He sent His only Son down to earth.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
2. It cannot be earned: It is given by grace and received through faith.
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9
3. Christ paid for it Himself: He gave His life that we may gain life.
For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as a propitiation by his blood, to be received by faith. Romans 3:22-25
4. It is available to any willing recipient: All we have to do is Believe in Jesus.
And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21
5. It comes with proof of purchase: The very Spirit of God enters the heart of God's children the moment they place their faith in Him.
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you. John 14:26
6. It makes us thankful: We do not have to worry about the look on our face when we open this gift! Jesus died for us while we were still underserving sinners. He died the death we deserved and paid debt we owed. He cleaned our sin-stained hearts to restore our fellowship with our heavenly Father. He loves us with the greatest love possible (John 15:13).
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. Colossians 2:6-7
Our Savior is calling everyone to believe and trust in Him so we can open up this grace-filled gift, become His close friend, and, one day, meet Him face-to-face in eternal heaven.
