My Quiet PlaceThe Most Important Thing |
Since I have been having quiet times with the Lord every morning for years, it is easy to stray from its purpose and intent. I have recently realized that a majority of my past quiet times have been self-focused. I often forget the most important aspect. I have not been giving the most crucial part of my quiet time the attention, energy, and effort it deserves. It is rushed, left out, or done half-heartedly. Never neglect the most important thing: PRAYER.
During His time on earth, Jesus spent time with His Father by going to a private place and just talking to Him. Prayer is the most important thing Believers can do in their quiet times with God! I have always spent the majority of my quiet time by reading the devotional content. Prayer was always something that I threw in there if time allowed. Prayer is what brings us closer to the Lord. It is is how our hearts are aligned with God’s. Prayer is how we can actually accomplish what we learn about in the Bible and devotional readings.
Since I have made the adjustment of spending more time in prayer during my quiet time, I can see a huge difference. When I pray before my time with the Lord, I am focused and connected with God. I feel like I retain the information I learn from that day’s devotional much more when I voice my thoughts to the Lord. After a quiet time spent mostly praying, I feel much more refreshed and ready for the day.
While talking to God, point out what the scripture says about Him. I was recently reminded of the importance of telling God who He is. Focusing on the attributes of God in scripture is very important. Reading the Bible is not just about you and how you can be a better disciple, but it is most importantly about praising and glorifying God! My past quiet times have always been self-focused. This explains why most days I am unable to remember, let alone apply, what I learned that morning to the rest of my day. By taking time to talk to God and praising Him, we are able to put the focus off of ourselves and onto God. It is not about us. Our quiet times are about glorifying God and discovering new ways in which we can line up our life with His will. Remember, not only should we tell ourselves these characteristics, but tell them to God Himself. He loves to hear how awesome He is. He is a jealous God in the most holy of ways!
Strive to spend time during your moments with the Lord not only praying for yourself, but others. Praying for others is an idea that I know is important but have never really practiced within my quiet time. This specific prayer time took the focus off of myself and on to others. At the end of your quiet time, pray what you learned for others as well as for yourself. It is a blessing to be able to pray truth into the lives of our loved ones.
❊The Challenge❊
Spend more time talking to God in your quiet time and see the difference it makes.
