Yesterday, on Valentine's Day, I sat down and talked to my future husband. No, I am not engaged. I wrote him a letter. During this precious time, I was reminded at how meaningful writing to your future spouse can be, whether you are single or dating. I started my journal of letters to my husband on my sixteenth birthday. Ever since then, I have shared not only my life with him (my problems, relationships, and dreams) but also my heart (my hurts, my struggles, my faith). After every entry, I always feel refreshed. I am reminded that, if it is the Lord's will that I marry, my future husband is very real. I wonder what he is doing. I wonder what his life looks like. I wonder if he ever thinks about me. I wonder if we have ever met. I cannot help but think about the moment when I present my collection of words to him and he can discover my past in a new way. Once the journal is complete, it will be so fun looking back on how our love story unfolded and how God used each moment, good and bad, for his perfect plan.
Writing to him gives me hope when I am feeling lonely and confidence when I am feeling insecure.

Even more than writing to him, I stress the importance of praying for him. I encourage you to set a daily alarm on your phone to remind you to stop and pray for your spouse right then and there. It may seem silly praying for someone you do not even know, but that is far from the truth. Paul sates all throughout his letters that he prays for people he does not know personally. Just because you have never met him does not mean your prayer does not work. How cool would it be to tell your husband one day, "I have been praying for you every single day years before we meat". At this very moment, your spouse could be in need of some serious prayers whether it be to fight of temptation, sickness, doubt, worry, or fear. He may even need prayer because he is not currently a Christian or is not currently following closely behind the Lord.
Right now, it may seem like God has terrible timing in your life. It may seem like He is just slapping paint on paper with no regard as to how the picture looks. But, based on His very own words, I promise that God knows exactly what he is doing. He has a plan.
The painting may not turn out exactly how it looks right now, but I promise it will be even more beautiful than you could ever imagine.
Take a step back. Instead of complaining that he is not in your life right now, pray for him. God will bring you together when you are ready, when he is ready, and when God is ready.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people. 1 Timothy 2:1
