A Chat about Prayer
Hello! I just thought I would talk a little bit more casually than normal about what God has been teaching me recently. Coincidently (or not so coincidently), the subject is prayer. Lately I feel like there are so many loose strands in my life that I want to be tied together in a nice little bow. I feel like nothing is going my way. A phone call regarding a summer plan was quite frustrating. An event I have been looking forward to for a while fell through. I am searching in vain for a job for the new year. I have a lot of demands for the upcoming week and am quite stressed. Although I probably need to pray more earnestly about these issues, I have asked and I am not receiving.
This morning, I heard a message on Luke 11. The speaker reminded me that when I ask and seek God, I will always receive God's best for me. I do not have to unceasingly nag God to get what I want. He is eager to answer His Children! God love to loves us! He will answer me according to His plan, not my own. What is best for my life may not be what I want. When I get disappointed or discouraged, I can still have faith that God has something amazing in store for me.
After the message, I went to my room and God spoke to me through Romans 8. I can also rejoice because the Holy Spirit will intercede for me. When I feel weak or am at a loss for words, the Spirit will pray for me. He knows my hearts desires and God's heart so He knows exactly what to pray for. Even when I don't know God's will, the Holy Spirit does. How comforting is that?!
When I pray, I should pray with God's will in mind and with thanksgiving. Whatever the outcome, I can be thankful because God will give me great things because He wants to. He will give me so much more than I ask or imagine. I can rely on my parents to give me what is best for me; my heavenly Father will give me that much more.
{ And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Luke 11: 9,10,13 }
{ Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. 28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:26-28 }
